Write for the Armchair

There is a particular kind of sports writing that almost doesn't exist any more.

Not the match report. Not the pundit's take. Not the hot opinion filed before the dressing room door has opened. Something quieter and more considered than all of that — the essay written by someone who was there, who has lived with the memory, and who has something genuinely worth saying about it.

That is what Views from the Armchair publishes. And we are always looking for the writers capable of producing it.

What We Are Looking For

We publish personal essays on great sporting occasions and considered comment on the game as it stands today. Every piece is written from a particular point of view, in a distinct voice, with the reader's intelligence taken seriously.

A good piece for the Armchair might be:

What it will never be is a match report, a transfer opinion, or a piece that could have been written without the writer having any personal connection to the subject.

The Sports We Cover

All sports are in scope. We are actively looking for voices in:

Golf · Cricket · Football · Rugby Union · Rugby League · Tennis · Formula One · Athletics · Boxing · Horse Racing · Cycling

And beyond. If you have a sport you know deeply and a memory worth sharing, we want to hear from you.
